Recently on Wordle, one of the highest failure rates came on game 209 with the word TANGY ending 5% of player streaks. This word was made more difficult with only 1 vowel. Making a HARD MODE catch-22 more likely.
Here is the breakdown for this game:
209 - TANGY on January 14th, 2022
There were many possible word selections that could have resulted in a 50/50 or worse situation for the 6th try. BANGY, MANGY, RANGY, and TANGY could have been a problem for some that were missing the first letter. Getting at least a 🟨 for the Y in the first or second round should help a lot in solving.
Double letter words can also create this problem where you need to pick one or the other on your 6th try, TANTY for this example.
According to FirstWord, ABYSS ranks very low as a starting choice. Sometimes a good guess with too many rhymes will get you in trouble.
A guess like SLATE could get you stuck in this situation, especially in Hard Mode.
Or a seemingly good first guess of..
May result with ending your STREAK!
RIGHT was eliminated with the first guess, but possible answers that remain are:
...and also double letter TIGHT
In hard mode, you end up with 5 guesses with 11 possible solutions. With a probability close to a coin flip.
More to come on a future post about words to avoid. You don't want to trap yourself in HARD mode. 😉
