A few months ago, I introduced a variation of Wordle. The game was Dordle and was basically two games at the same time. Seeing this new variation with 4 games in my radar a few weeks ago, I started off ignoring it.
This 4-game version called Quordle has gained some traction the past couple weeks. Now on daily game 79, I figured I should share some strategy. Of course I started of playing it to develop a strategy.
And I failed the first 3 times.
First, let me explain Quordle. You have 9 guesses to solve all 4 words. Each guess gives you ⬛, 🟨, and 🟩 hints for 4 different solutions. The strategy way different for Quordle, vs Wordle.
You need to find information of many letters, right away in the game. You can't get stuck on a 3 or 4 🟩 situation. I discussed a two word opener for Wordle previously, and was against it. Using a two word opener for ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛ situation is a no brainer. Ignoring 🟨 or 🟩 hints in a single game makes your chance of getting 2/6 exactly 0.
Now for Dordle I recommended going with the best hints. Solving the two independently. Getting 3 hints in your first word, significantly reduces hints on the 2nd puzzle. With a 3rd and 4th puzzle in Quordle, you need this information. A two word open is a must, and a three word is probably a good idea.
Good opens to capture all vowels:
Good extended opens without duplicates
RATES, CLUMP, and DOING
STARE, PINCH, and MOULD
STEAL, BOUND, and PRICY
STARE, DOILY, and PUNCH
STORY, ALIEN, and CHUMP
TRACE, SOUND, and IMPLY
PINCH, LOFTS, BADGE, and MURKY (20/26 letters)
JUMPY, HAVEN, FRITZ, and CLOGS
I like having 2 set word with 3rd word variations.
ROAST, LINED, and (CHUMP/HUMPY/MUCKY)
In the above example, this player started with ERASE (for the record, double-letter is a bad idea). Then focused on the bottom-left puzzle with the guess STAND. For the 3rd word, the focus went to the top-right and guessed UDDER finding the first solution.
This person is stuck with the top-left puzzle. Options of BROWN, GROWN, and FROWN left. These variations are problem words, don't get stuck on them.
I won't give out the solution to "today's Quordle 79" but below are recent solution examples.
